TV or not TV? That’s a question.
Until last night, we had watched a exactly zero television in the past month. This wasn’t a conscious decision. We’re busy out swimming, biking, and running, or building bicycles, or cleaning the house and cooking (Ok, I’m busy with the bicycles, Ivonne’s way ahead of me on cooking and cleaning). We simply haven’t turned the box on.
I wouldn’t have a problem with getting rid of TV completely. However, Ivonne likes to have options, even if they are never used. If we can’t get rid of TV completely and go TV-Free, we’ll go the next best route and get Free-TV.
We have Time Warner basic cable for one reason: my addiction to high-speed cable internet. When I first got hooked on up with high-speed internet, basic cable was required or Time Warner would charge you an additional fee. The fee was about 1 dollar less than the cost of basic cable (about $8 for the fee, $9 for basic cable.) Since then, two things have changed – Basic cable rates double to about $20/month and the fee is gone. Add this to the fact that they’ve removed NBC, and the rumors of more stations (KLRU2) moving off of basic cable – it’s providing less and less value.
Time to harken back to the old days and get our TV the same way our ancestors did – magically over the air. I’ve done my research on antennas, transmission tower locations, elevation, the digital vs analog change, window locations in the house, you name it. So in a few days, we’ll have a high-tech antenna bringing us our television signal - a signal that will probably go unseen for another month.
